I have been living in Bang Saray for more than one year. I had a good room, met someone who liked me, was partly actively involved in the large, local pool billiard scene, went on many motorcycle tours in Chonburi province and visited many different coffee shops.

Ich habe für weit mehr als ein Jahr in Bang Saray gelebt. Ich hatte ein gutes Zimmer; habe jemanden getroffen, der mich mochte; war teilweise aktiv in die große Pool Billiard Szene eingebunden; habe in der Provinz Chonburi sehr viel Touren mit dem Scooter gemacht und dabei viele unterschiedliche Cafes besucht.

But due the location of the small town and many restricted areas due to the local Royal Thai Navy base I reached the limits of the radius I could comfortably cover on my tours. And after a while I began to dislike more and more other foreigners in Bang Saray. I didn’t want to know them or let them try to get to know me.

Aber wegen der Lage des kleinen Ortes und den Zugangsbeschränkungen durch die ortsansässige Royal Thai Navy hatte ich auch bald einen Aktionsradius erreicht, den ich auf meinen Touren irgendwann nicht noch weiter ausdehnen wollte. Und nach einiger Zeit bin ich immer wieder anderen Ausländern über den Weg gelaufen, die ich nicht kennenlernen wollte und auch nicht wollte, dass sie mich ansprachen.

That’s why I decided to leave Bang Saray and move to the neighbouring province of Rayong in August 2025.

Aus genannten Gründen bin ich im August 2025 in die benachbarte Provinz Rayong gezogen.

Below I would like to show some randomly selcted photos of places, objectsor scenes that I took on my scooter tours (Yamaha Aerox 155).

Nachfolgend möchte ich einige zufällig ausgewählte Fotos von Orten, Gegenständen oder Szenen zeigen, die ich während meiner Touren mit dem Scooter (Yamaha Aerox 155) aufgenommen habe.

It looks like a pretty beautiful beach. You can experience the real beach feeling: The wind, the sound of the waves, sand flying around.

Es sieht wie ein ziemlich schöner Strand aus und natürlich kommt schnell das echte Strandgefühl auf: Der Wind, der Klang der sich brechenden Wellen, Sand in der Luft.

Sounds great, and the beach area is much longer and significantly wider compared to Bang Saray. But anyone who knows me knows I will find any fault with almost anything. I’m not saying that everything is bad or faulty. But it’s worth mentioning that the sand can’t be described as either white or fine-grained. It’s more of a mixture of yellowish, coarse grains that simply doesn’t look clean and feels sharp rather than soft while walking along the beach.

Klingt sehr gut und der Strandbereich ist im Vergleich zu Bang Saray viel länger und auch deutlich breiter. Aber wer mich kennt, weiß eben auch, dass ich in fast jeder Suppe genau das eine Haar finde, das da nicht hinein gehört. Ich behaupte nicht, dass ich einen Zopf gefunden habe. Aber es darf aus meiner Sicht eben auch nicht unerwähnt bleiben, dass der Sand weder als weiß noch als feinkörnig bezeichnet werden darf. Es handelt sich vielmehr um ein Gemisch aus gelblichen, groben Körnern, das insgesamt einfach nicht wirklich sauber aussieht und sich an den Füßen nicht weich sondern eher scharfkantig anfühlt.

But my tours don’t just take me to the long beaches of Rayong province. On the contrary, they often lead me to the areas north of the city. What I consistently observe, and what I still find delightful even after several years of experience in Thailand, is the often genuinely friendly and open nature of the Thai people as soon as they realize that, although obviously being a foreigner, I can still order or ask for something without using English. Conversely, I also notice a certain reluctance to approach me because it’s not immediately obvious that I can communicate quite well in Thai, at least regarding general matters. Apparently, the fear of not being able to keep up in English prevails.

Aber meine Touren führen mich natürlich nicht nur an die langen Strände der Provinz Rayong sondern ganzim Gegenteil auch oft in die nördlich der Stadt gelegenen Gegenden. Was ich immer wieder feststellen kann und auch nach einigen Jahren Erfahrung in Thailand immer noch erfeut aufnehme, ist die oft wirklich sehr freundliche, offene Art der thailändischen Bevölkerung sobald sie bemerken, dass ich zwar ausländisch aussehe aber eben trotzdem ohne Einsatz von Englisch etwas zu bestellen oder zu erfragen. Umgekehrt stelle ich allerdings auch eine gewisse Scheu fest, mich anzusprechen weil man mir ja nicht ansieht, dass ich mich zumindest bezüglich allgemeiner Dinge ganz gut in thailändischer Sprache verständigen kann. Da überwiegt dann offenbar die Furcht, im Englischen nicht mithalten zu können.

Although I have been non-religious for over 25 years, I sometimes stop at Buddhist temples to look for photo opportunities or simply to let the peace and quiet atmosphere away from the road wash over me.

Obwohl ich seit über25 Jahren konfessionslos bin, halte ich manchmal an buddhistischen Tempeln an um nach Fotomotiven zu suchen oder einfach die Ruhe etwas abseits der Straße auf mich wirken zu lassen.

One thing I really only noticed in Rayong is that in some places, eggs are left out in the sun, at least temporarily, and offered for sale. Even though I’ve never been much of a homemaker, I do remember that eggs are kept in the refrigerator. But even here in Rayong, I never bothered to ask for an explanation.

Eine Sache, die mir wirklich nur in Rayong aufgefallen ist, ist der Umstand, dass mancherorts Eier in der Sonne zumindest zwischengelagert und zum Verkauf angeboten werden. Auch wenn ich mich in meinem Leben nie als echter Hausmann hervorgetan habe, ist mir doch in Erinnerung geblieben, dass Eier im Kühlschrank aufbewahrt werden. Ich habe mich aber hier in Rayong nie um eine Erkärung für diese Besonderheit bemüht.

Especially along the central, narrow Yomjinda Rd. in the older part of the city, a closer look reveals numerous indications of the large Chinese population in Rayong. This is closely linked to the so-called ‚Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Zone‘. This 12-square-kilometer area was established in 2005 and is home to nearly 200 Chinese companies in the technology sector.

Besonders entlang der zentralen, schmalen Yomjinda Straße im älteren Teil der Stadt findet man bei genauerem Hinsehen immer wieder Hinweise auf die große Gruppe der chinesischen Bevölkerung in Rayong. Dieser Umstand ist dicht mit der sogenannten ‚Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Zone‘ verbunden. Dieses 12 Quadratkilometer große Gebiet wurde 2005 etabliert und beherbergt knapp 200 chinesische Firmen des technischen Sektors.
