690 km from Mukdahan to Samut Prakan (October 2011)
After quitting my job in Mukdahan and making up my mind in terms of moving closer to Bangkok, I figured out the route to Samut Prakan near Bangkok where I had rented a room for 1 month. But my plan was to find another room for the future.
I got my personal maps printed, took my notebook, a bag with clothes – and began riding towards Bangkok respectively Samut Prakan.
After 2 days and 690 km I arrived without any issues and felt quite proud of myself.
Nachdem ich meine Arbeit in Mukdahan beendet hatte und mir darüber klar geworden war, daß ich in die Nähe von Bangkok ziehen wollte, habe ich die Strecke nach Samut Prakan bei Bangkok geplant. Hier hatte ich für einen Monat ein Zimmer gemietet und wollte mir von dort aus eine andere Unterkunft für die nächste Zeit suchen.
Ich kümmerte mich um den Ausdruck der von mir vorbereiteten Kartenausschnitte, packte das Laptop sowie eine Tasche mit der nötigsten Kleidung – und machte mich auf die Tour nach Bangkok beziehungsweise Samut Prakan.
Nach zwei Tagen und 690 Kilometern kam ich totmüde, aber ohne besondere Zwischenfälle, an dem von mir gebuchten Zimmer an und fühlte mich ziemlich stolz auf die vergangenen zwei Tage.

Not much traffic here, a wide lane for motorcycles … I really enjoyed it. Wirklich eine entspannte Fahrt. Kaum Verkehr und eine breite Spur für motorisierte Zweiräder. Ich konnte die Fahrt wirklich genießen.130 km to Nakhon Ratchasima – that sounded not too bad (roughly 2 more hours to go). Nur noch 130 Kilometer bis nach Nakhon Ratchasima. – das klang nicht allzu schlecht (ungefähr noch zwei Stunden zu fahren).Last stop before Nakhon Ratchasima – Prathai. Der letzte Halt vor der Ankunft in Nakhon Ratchasima – in Prathai.Those clouds didn’t look so nice … Diese Wolken sahen nicht wirklich schön aus …Another significant intersection: Meeting highway number 2 which stretches from Saraburi north of Bangkok to Nong Kai in the Northeast of Thailand. Eine weitere markante Kreuzung: Highway 2, der von Saraburi im Norden von Bangkok nach Nong Kai im Nordosten Thailands verläuft.Then I arrived in Nakhon Ratchasima and found a decent hotel for around 15 Euros. Dann endlich war ich in der Stadt und habe ein anständiges Zimmer für etwa 15 Euro gefunden.Interesting wall between the bedroom and the bathroom … Auffällige Trennwand zwischen Bad und Schlafzimmer …In the evening I went out to the city center to have dinner and visit the statue of the famous Thao Suranari (or Ya Mo). She was the wife of the deputy governor of Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) and saved the inhabitans from being abducted to Laos. Am Abend war ich im Zentrum unterwegs um etwas zu essen und das berühmte Standbild von Thao Suranari (auch Ya Mo genannt) zu besuchen. Sie war die Frau des Vizegouverneurs von Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) und hat die Einwohner vor einer Entführung nach Laos bewahrt.Wat Nonkum / Wat Luang Por To west of Nakhon Ratchasima. Die Chokchai Farm ist ein Ort um die lokale Landwirtschaft und deren Produkte zu vermarkten.I tried the milk ice-cream … and it was really … creamy. Ich habe das Milcheis probiert … und es war tatsächlich sehr cremig.Sawas dee kha (Thai greeting, spoken by a woman). Guten Tag oder Auf Wiedersehen (thailändischer Gruß, von einer Frau gesprochen).Good motivation to see that … Samut Prakan is closer than that. Sehr motivierend, das zu sehen … Samut Prakan liegt etwas näher.Sorry, to big to carry it along … Entschuldigung, die Tasche ist zu groß um sie mitzunehmen.Approaching the area where my map told me to leave the highway … In der Nähe der Gegend, in der ich laut Karte die Autobahn verlassen sollte.Be careful! Vorsicht!The mirror became loose , I stopped at a small motorcycle shop, a guy tried to fix it – and broke it! Wegen der sehr schlechten Straße hatte sich ein Spiegel gelockert, ich habe an einer kleinen Werkstatt angehalten, jemand versuchte, den Spiegel zu befestigen – und hat ihn dabei zerbrochen.Getting closer – the airport is in Samut Prakan … Immer näher – der Flughafen liegt schon in samut Prakan …It began to look like a big city already … Allmählich sah es schon nach Großstadt aus …I rode the whole tour without helmet – until here. Police stopped me, fined me (around 8 Euro), made me unload my bag and put on the helmet – which was underneath the well secured bag and the saddle. Another, unintentional stop … Ich bin den Großteil der Strecke ohne Helm gefahren – bis hierher. Die Polizei hielt mich an und ich musste umgerechnet 8 Euro dafür bezahlen, ohne Helm gefahren zu sein. Ich musste den Helm, der unter dem gut verschnürten Gepäck unter dem Sattel steckte, herausholen und aufsetzen. Ein weiterer ungeplanter Stop.I finally arrived at the place that I had booked for 1 month. Schließlich bin ich doch noch dort angekommen, wo ich mir für einen Monat ein Zimmer gebucht hatte.Final milage: 690 km, 2 days, 1 night, 9 hours per day on the bike. But I made it without accident and problems. (I remember that my hands were still shaking while taking this photo. I was done!) Kilometerstand nach Ankunft: 690 km, zwei Tage, eine Nacht, neun Stunden täglich auf dem Roller. Aber ich hatte es ohne Unfall und Probleme geschafft. (Ich erinnere mich daran, daß meine Hände noch gezittert haben während ich dieses Bild gemacht habe. Ich war fix und fertig!)
