Although my my lessons at Chumchon School were cancelled due to a special ceremony today, I was invited to come to school and join the ceremony.
I don’t know who was responsible for it – but today the school received 2 new Buddha statues which would be set up beside the school’s flagpole.
Thai teachers and students were present already when I arrived at the school.
Obwohl meine Unterrichtsstunden an der Chumchon Schule wegen einer geplanten Feier abgesagt worden waren, hatte man mich doch eingeladen, zur Schule zu kommen um an der Feier teilzunehmen.
Ich hatte keine Ahnung, wer dafür verantwortlich war – aber heute erhielt die Schule zwei neue Buddhastatuen, die neben dem Fahnenmast aufgestellt werden sollten.
Die thailändischen Lehrer und Schüler waren schon anwesend als ich an der Schule ankam.

Wer hilft hier wem …?The cars stopped by the flagpole … Die Autos hielten an dem Fahnenmast …… while the monks were waiting to open the ceremony. … während die Mönche darauf warteten, die Feier zu eröffnen.Then the first statue was unloaded … Dann wurde die erste Statue abgeladen …… and set up in front of a small altar. … und vor dem kleinen Altar aufgestellt.This is exactly where the statue would be standing soon. Genau hier würde die Statue bald stehen.The second statue had to wait for its time to come. Die zweite Statue musste noch warten bis ihre Zeit gekommen war.Better than listening to a teacher, isn’t it? Besser als einem Lehrer zuzuhören, oder?One of the monks attached a white thread to the statue … Einer der Mönche brachte einen langen, weißen Faden an der Statue an …… supported by the school’s director. … unterstützt vom Schuldirektor.Then guests and visitors could grab and hold the thread in order to be blessed by the new Buddha statue. Dann durften Gäste und Besucher den Faden ergreifen und festhalten. Das sollte dazu dienen, den Segen der neuen Statue zu erhalten.I could see how serious they were about this part of the cermony. Ich konnte gut erkennen, wie ernst die Leute diesen Teil der Feier nahmen.Then it was time for the second statue to be set up on top of the pillar. I really didn’t know anything about the material of the statue. Ok, no gold! But I expected it the be more on the ‚massive, solid‘ side. But looking at the hands of the people holding it – at least the base appeared to be hollow and made of thin tin. Dann war es an der Zeit, die zweite Statue auf den Sockel zu setzen. Ich wusste nichts über das Material der Statue. Ok, Gold war es nicht! Aber ich hatte erwartet, daß es ’stärker‘, ‚fester‘ wäre. Aber ein Blick auf die Hände der Helfer zeigte – zumindest der untere Teil schien hohl und aus dünnem Blech gefertigt zu sein.Buddha behind bars (Sorry). Buddha hinter Gittern (Entschuldigung).Locals praying and hoping that everything will go well … Die Anwohner beteten und hofften darauf, daß alles gut gehen würde …… during the lynching … ahh lifting of the statue. … beim Hängen … ahh Hochziehen der Statue.Making sure that everything is properly fixed. Sicherstellen, daß alles gut befestigt ist.No ceremony without music … Keine Feier ohne Musik …Then it was time to pray again and pay respect to the monks. Dann war die Zeit gekommen, nochmals zu beten und den Mönchen gegenüber Respekt zu zeigen.But this man discovered something that he wouldn’t tolerate … Aber dieser Mann hatte etwas entdeckt, das er so nicht belassen konnte …Maybe the overhead rings were not correctly centered. Wahrscheinlich waren die oberen Ringe nicht genau mittig ausgerichtet.But finally everything looked perfect … Aber schließlich sah alles perfekt aus …… or not? What else did she see …? Oder doch nicht? Was hatte sie noch gesehen …?At least a few others had fun … Zumindest einige andere hatten Spaß …… and asked me to take a photo of them. … und baten mich, ein Foto von ihnen zu machen.Then it was their turn to take a picture of their teacher. But one of them played the silly girl and turned away. Dann waren sie an der Reihe, ein Foto von ihrem Lehrer zu machen. Allerdings stellte sich eine Schülerin dumm und drehte sich weg.Hot day – even for the monks … Es war ein heißer Tag – sogar für die Mönche ..At the end of the ceremony everyone was encouraged to attach small gold leaves to the base and pillow of the new statues. Stepping in front of a Buddha statue means: shoes off! Am Ende der Feier sollte jeder kleine Goldblättchen an dem Sockel der Statue anbringen. Sich vor eine Buddhastatue zu begeben bedeutet immer: Schuhe aus!Only one out of many today … Nur eins von vielen am heutigen Tag …Those thin gold leaves are difficult to handle and require a high level of concentration … Diese dünnen Goldblättchen sind schwer zu bändigen und erfordern ein hohes Maß an Konzentration …
